Privacy Policy — Salish Tides

Effective date: July 11, 2026

Salish Tides ("the app") is a tide and tidal-current planning aid for the Salish Sea. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. In short: the app collects no personal data and requires no account.

Information we collect

None. Salish Tides does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. There is no account, no sign-in, and no analytics or advertising SDKs.

Location

If you choose to show your position on the chart, the app requests When-In-Use location access. Your location is used only on your device to draw your position on the map. It is never stored, logged, or transmitted off your device, and it is not shared with us or any third party. You can decline or revoke this permission at any time in the iOS Settings app; the rest of the app continues to work without it.

Data stored on your device

Tide and current data, map tiles, and your app settings are stored locally on your device. This information stays on the device and is included in your normal device backups; it is not sent to us.

Network requests

Salish Tides is designed to work fully offline. If a feature that uses live data is enabled, the app may request tide, current, or map-tile data from public providers — for example NOAA CO-OPS, the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), SalishSeaCast, and the map-tile provider. These requests retrieve public environmental and map data and do not include any personal information about you. Such requests are subject to those providers' own privacy policies.

Children's privacy

The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Third-party services

The app does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. Any public data providers listed above receive only the requests needed to fetch public data, never personal information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page.
